Greenvolt Comunidades will develop a Renewable Energy Community in Setúbal with several companies from the Sapec Group.
• The 298 photovoltaic solar panels to be installed will generate more than 238 MWh annually, providing more competitive and clean energy that can be shared among Sapec Group companies and others in the Mitrena Peninsula.
• Sapec will achieve network savings of about 22% in the first phase, and this installation will prevent the emission of more than 63 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
Greenvolt Comunidades, a company of the Greenvolt Group, will create a Renewable Energy Community with several companies from the SAPEC Group operating in the Sapec Bay Industrial Park in the Mitrena Industrial Zone in Setúbal. Subsequently, the goal is to extend the benefits of the Energy Community to other companies, with SAPEC playing a key role in this initiative.
298 photovoltaic solar panels will be installed over an area of about 1500 square meters. These panels will have a total capacity of more than 162 kWp, capable of generating 238 MWh annually. The generated energy will power the aluminum sulfate production unit and other SAPEC activities with about 22% network independence in the first phase, with more UPACs planned.
“This is a particularly relevant project for Greenvolt Comunidades as it is in the Sapec Bay Industrial Park. We will provide cheaper and cleaner energy to SAPEC Group companies, but we know that this same energy will reach both other group companies and others located in a highly industrialized park and area,” says José Queirós de Almeida, CEO of Greenvolt Comunidades.
In the initial phase, panels will be installed in two SAPEC Group companies operating in the Sapec Bay Industrial Park, where the Aurora project (Galp/NorthVolt) was also recently announced. Greenvolt Comunidades and SAPEC aim to extend this community to other companies in the Mitrena Peninsula, provided they are located within a 4 km radius.
“With this project, the SAPEC Group intends, following investments in its traditional activities and new businesses recently integrated into its portfolio, to continue strengthening its contribution to sustainability,” says António Marques, CEO of SAPEC.
These solar panels will prevent the emission of more than 63 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
SAPEC is a family group that has been investing in Portugal since 1926 in a diverse range of businesses that today include Port Terminal Concessions and Stevedoring Services, particularly roll-on/roll-off, Provision of Logistics Services and Management of Multimodal Logistics Platforms, Automotive Logistics, Distribution of Chemical Products for Industry, and Production of Algae in Aquaculture for human consumption and cosmetics.
Greenvolt Comunidades, resulting from the Greenvolt Group’s strategic decision to promote the distributed generation of renewable energy, both for self-consumption and through the concept of energy communities, has been operating in the market since April 2022, leading this segment with more than 40 projects from north to south of the country, corresponding to more than 30 MWp.
